Homes, Shopping and Offices Attractive and Affordable Housing The reimagined Wyvernwood site will offer a variety of modern housing options for all income levels, creating a dramatic improvement over the aging and outdated buildings on the current site. In recognition of its innovative, high-quality design, The New Wyvernwood was granted the prestigious Charter Award by the Congress for the New Urbanism in March 2012. Plans call for up to 4,400 new apartments and condominiums, ranging from studios to three-bedroom units with a den/loft. Units will finally accommodate basic amenities unavailable when Wyvernwood was built in 1938 – conveniences such as air conditioning, cable TV and washer/dryers. Fulfilling a wish sought by residents for decades, larger units will have more than one bathroom, and parking and storage space will finally meet modern standards as well. Introducing condominiums into the project will give Wyvernwood residents a chance to own their own homes for the first time. Homes will be available at a range of price levels, with financial assistance going to current tenants who choose to buy. And the number of rental units will not change. Also, 15 percent of all units built – up to 660 in total – will be designated as affordable housing for families with low and very low incomes. New Retail and Office Space
The 300,000 square feet of shopping and office space will be accessible by a network of walking and bike paths, reducing residents’ dependence on cars while promoting a healthier lifestyle and a cleaner environment. |
