Significant Local Hiring
Boyle Heights has been hard-hit by unemployment during this painful economic downturn. The Wyvernwood redevelopment project will combat the problem by committing to hire large numbers of local residents.
With the help of non-profit employment specialists PVJOBS, Wyvernwood owner Fifteen Group has created the Boyle Heights Job Collaborative, a comprehensive employment program designed to hire local workers and provide them with training and lifelong skills.
Numerous community groups have agreed to partner in this effort. They include:
Special emphasis will be placed on hiring current Wyvernwood residents, including disadvantaged community members.
The Boyle Heights Jobs Collaborative aims to give each worker a minimum of 3,000 hours of work, with special outreach dedicated to disadvantaged residents.
30% Local Participation Goal
Workers must have permanent residence within three miles of the project area (first priority), or must have permanent residency within the City of Los Angeles (second priority).
10% Disadvantaged Participation Goal
Workers must meet local residency requirement above, and face at least one of the following barriers at time of program enrollment:
The goals are measured in hours of work performed. The 30% local goal includes the 10% disadvantaged goal.
